Research On Layout Design Of Front Page Of Chinese Metropolis Newspaper

Along with development of marketization and industrialization in press field, metropolis newspapers guided by market and readers pay more attention to newspaper appearance. To a great extend, a brief, lucid, lively, grand and striking front page influences competitive edge of a metropolis newspaper. Simultaneously, re-designing front page of newspaper is becoming indispensability in newspaper improving strategy, which is as well as a significant approach to expand operation of advertisement. This paper aims to induce what China metropolis newspapers probe under currently severe crisis in press industry and what enlightenment and reference significance it has to China newspaper’s design by sampling analyzing The Beijing News, Modern Express, Southern Metropolis Daily and West China Metropolis Daily and comparing between Southern Metropolis Daily and Southern Daily, Yangcheng Evening News from the same city, combined together with theory of newspaper page and page design.Developing trajectory of metropolis newspaper and its history is stated in this paper, and summary and induction is made on changing course of front page of metropolis newspaper. The author makes sketchy sort in vertical direction from early bite-type layout, modular layout to modern cover-page layout and synopsis-type layout.The author make statistics of factors concerned with content from front pages of four metropolis newspapers through the method of content analysis. According to statistics, it gets the conclusion that front page of China metropolis newspaper is characterized with brief masthead, guiding headline, mainstreaming content, poster-like picture, fashionable advertisement and so forth. Meanwhile, same statistics analysis is made on front pages samples of Southern Metropolis Daily, Southern Daily and Yangcheng Evening News. Through comparison with party newspaper and evening newspaper, advantages is concluded that metropolis newspaper’s content is more relaxing, lucid, lively and more focus on vision; In addition, the author make statistics of factors concerned with format from front pages of four metropolis newspapers. Based on this statistics, new characteristics of metropolis newspaper’s front page is seen, taking for example "slim" popularity, flexible column, various layout, transparent shading, unified tone, scientific white space and so on. While through analysis and comparison of same factors of Southern Metropolis Daily, Southern Daily and Yangcheng Evening News, it is obvious that format of metropolis newspaper’s front page put more emphasis on vigor and taste.At last, bases on situation of press industry under growing crisis, the author summarize a series of exploration and improvement metropolis newspapers have made to go through the crisis. Simultaneously it endows the paper with practical significance that it puts forwards future developing trend and innovative methods of metropolis newspaper’s pages’design considering its existing state, providing theory reference to pages’innovation.
