With the development of the Internet, the Local Area Network (LAN) has been attached great importance from enterprises and developed significantly. Administrators have to manage the LAN efficiently in order to keep the LAN running properly, effectively, steady and reliably.This thesis introduces the background and research significance of the LAN management. And it also introduces the LAN management system, Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), Management Information Base (MIB), Network Topology Discovery and related concepts.SNMP currently is the standard protocol of the LAN management. Developing the software of the LAN management under SNMP basing on Windows system is highly demanded in reality.This thesis focuses on the appearance and management demand of a LAN, combines the reality of LAN management, introduces the develop workflow and design mind of Browser/Server (B/S) management system basing on the SNMP for medium and small LAN and in special the core technology.According to the principle and demand of software projects, this research illuminates functions design ideas and Implementation for topology discovery, equipment management, bandwidth management and fault warning within the LAN management area. Besides, it’s visualized the running effects of modules with screenshots.
