Ultra-wideband (UWB) technique is a strong competitive technology for short-distance and high-speed communication. Antenna is the key component of the system and the performance of an antenna has a direct impact on the quality of the system. With the requirement of high integration and low cost, Ultra-wideband printed monopole antenna can meet those needs, because of its small size, low cost, easy integration. This paper firstly gives detailed introduction of the UWB relevant parameters and summarizes the miniaturization and broadening the band techniques for Ultra-wideband planar printed monopole antenna, which includes changing the dielectric constant of the substrate, loading, meander, using the matching network and the use of fractal antenna. In addition, the introduction of the EBG structures and DGS technologies, even the applications of them in antennas will be given. Then the paper on the basis of using thickness of1.6mm FR4substrate to design an Ultra-wideband planar printed monopole antenna, the size is22mm×28mm, working band at3.1-14GHz. In order to improves the capability of the anti-jamming. With EBG structure and engraving circular groove on the basis of the Ultra-band planar printed monopole antenna achieved the band-notched in WiMAX3.4-3.7GHz and WLAN5.15-5.828GHz. At last, getting the physical production and measurement of the antenna. The measurement results and simulation results are closely meet. The miniaturized Ultra-wideband planar printed monopole antenna with notched bands in this paper has advantage of small size, low cost, ease of integration and double band-notched characteristics. It has some practical value in engineering.
