Application Of Welding Robot In The Excavator Boom

With the rapid development of the current science and change of employmentenvironment and Substantial growth in product demand, robot welding has been applied tomany fields in the domestic, such as the automotive industry, construction machineryindustry and so on. This paper mainly discusses the application of welding robot in theexcavator boom weld in Caterpillar (Xuzhou) Co., Ltd. The project is one of main projectsof technical renovation item in company.In the current, we use manual CO2gas shielded MIG welding to weld excavatorboom, in order to improve welding productivity, and reduce the labor intensity, andimprove the working environment of workers, the decision is made that apply the weldingrobot in boom manufacture.The research work of the application on welding robot for excavator boom begin fromfully analyzing the production situation and production process, then develop the robotwelding process and the layout of the production process, compare the models fromdifferent supplier, finally determine the configuration of the robot welding and technicalparameters according to the boom structural characteristics and its application conditions.We carried out technology test for all kinds of welded joints to determine the weldingparameters before the application of welding robot production. Use six Sigma method toanalyse the root cause of welding defects and continue improvement.By improving thedimensions accuracy of the weld root gap and all cutting parts, reduced the weld defectssuch as undercut unfusion and so on, and improved the rate of the complete weld andexamination pass. Analysis and statistics on downtime of the welding robot during workinghours, continuely inprove the effective working time. Now, we can use welding robot toproduce high volume excavator boom in company.
