The object of this study is to investigate on the Indian Museums’Development inthe Post-Independence Era: 1947-1999. The thesis is divided into three parts:The first part is the Introduction. It summarizes and analyzes the availableliteratures both inside and outside China about Indian Museums’Development in thePost-Independence Era: 1947-1999; details the rational of the topic; clarifies the aimsof the study, reveals the ideas and the methods contain in the research; and then thecontents and significance of the study.The second part is entitled Indian Museums’Development since Independence tothe late 1960s: 1947-1969. It delves into the development of Indian museums such asthe Science and Technology Museum as being the representative of a new type ofmuseum; the establishment of Indian museums’institutions; the cooperation betweenIndian museums and international museum institutions; reinforce the conservation ofmaterial objects in Indian museums; the training of Indian museums’personnel andthe social service provided by Indian museums.The third part is about the Indian Museums’Development from the beginningsince the 1970s to the end of the 1990s: 1970-1999. It probes into the development ofthe Eco-museum in India as representing a new type of museum; the exchangebetween Indian museums and international museum institutions; the financialimprovement of Indian museums; the further improvement of material objectsconservation in Indian museums; the innovations in Indian museums’personneltraining and the new development of the social service provided by Indian museums.
