Research On Scalable-Multiple Descriptions Video Coding

The problems, such as congestion, packets lost in the Internet and wireless networks, not only restrict the real-time transmission of multimedia stream, but also impact the accuracy and reliability of the information. In order to solve these problems, a coding scheme which is efficient and has strong error resilience robustness has aroused widespread concern in the research scholars of video communications at home and abroad.A rotation-based multiple description coding scheme and a novel multiple description coding scheme for2D and3D videos, which utilize both the advantages of scalable video coding and multiple description video coding, have been proposed. The new coding scheme not only is able to meet the need of different network transmission channel with strong error resilience but also can be used in the heterogeneous network transmission for different terminals. The details are as follows:①A new multiple description coding scheme is based on rotation has been proposed. The coding scheme can not only solve the mismatch and high redundancy brought by the traditional multiple description coding scheme but also ensure that the program can still get the same performance as the traditional single description scheme even only the single description is received.②The scalable multiple description coding has been used in2D video sequences. The coding scheme improves the robustness effectively, and the real-time transmission can be adapted to different terminals and different networks.③A robust scalable coding scheme for3D video sequences is proposed. As we all know,3D video sequences consist of the depth information and the texture information. The depth information and the texture information can be, respectively, encoding by the scalable multiple description video coding. The proposed scheme is superior to the scalable video coding.
