The generation of Chinese Documentation, from Confucius finishing the six classics, has two thousand five hundred years of history. With the further development of document work, many branches of disciplines have emerged, which has been enriching and expanding the areas of documentation. The twentieth century is a period of transition in Chinese Documentation that has underwent from the micro perspective rise to the macro, and from the classification of documentation, synthesis of working experience, to the abstraction and generalization of relevant theories. Social situation has a significant impact on the development of correspondent researches in China, especially the development of basic theoretical research in depth. The construction of Chinese Documentation theory system should make use of the theories and methods of Classical Chinese Documentation and Occidental Modern Documentation, on the other hand, it should base itself upon the reality of Chinese Documentation subject, and give prominence to the characteristics of Modern Chinese Documentation theory system, then establish the independent theory system of Chinese Documentation. Therefore, the thesis is to discuss document basic theory definition, basic content and its development trend, comb related issues, and carry on systematic research in order to draw the attention of the academic field, and then to promote and facilitate the healthy development of basic theoretical research.
