In recent years, with the development of network communication technology, GPRSnetwork has been able to connect to the Internet. Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) hasbeen be developed based on this technology. The MMS-based remote monitoring can providea real time and convinent way for unattended environments. The remote monitoring deviceintroduced in this thesis has many characteristics: easy operation, low cost, real time, lowapplication cost, etc.Firstly, this thesis studies the theoretical knowledge relevant to remote monitoringdevices, which includes GPRS network technologies and MMS service technologies. Theconnecting method of GPRS to Internet from the GRPS’s system structure is studied. And theMMS realizing methods and its sending process is prensented.Secondly, the hardware and software scheme of the remote monitoring device based onGPRS and MMS is designed. The microcontroller, image acquisition module, GPRS moduleand their peripheral circuit are carefully selected and designed. The software design methodof the Short Messaging Service (SMS) triggering, image captue and MMS sending areintroduced. As the memory of the microcontroller is small and the image data quantity is large, the immediate sending after receiveing of image data is applied in software design. In thisway, no external memory is needed. The packaging and encoding of MMS Protocol Data Unit(PDU), as well as the way of sending MMS by HTTP post request and its message format arealso studied. Finally, the debugging method of MMS remote monitoring device is introduced. And theexperiments of MMS sending and receving are finished. When sending a SMS message to theremote monitoring device, it can capture an image from the monitoring scene and send back aMMS message to the mobile phone or E-mail address in time. The experimental results showthat the device can work stable in long time and meet the design requirements. The futureresearching points are put forward in the end.
