In ubiquitous network environment, collaboration is intended to overcome the limitation of single network’s ability in order to achieve more efficient provision of services, and provide users with seamless, best service experience. In the collaboration under ubiquitous network circumstances, the data will no longer be transmitted by a single network, but assigned to different network path for transmission based on service characteristics and network capabilities. Providing services through multiple paths could avoid network disruption due to a single path’s failures caused by congestion, therefore improve network robustness. In addition, the use of multi-path transmission could take advantage of ubiquitous network with its variety of different kind of network access, which result in higher data rates, thus provide users with smoother and more efficient service experience. To provide users with media streaming in ubiquitous network is the future trend of development. Traditional streaming methods were based on single path transmission, and the transmission process would inevitably be affected by real-time network status, such as errors, jitter and packet loss and other network transmission problems. To meet with the challenges of video streaming under ubiquitous network, this paper presents a distributed multi-source streaming mechanism. We first outlines the current collaborate transport theories, then summarizes the major of network collaborate transport mechanisms, and analyze their shortcomings. On this basis, this paper presents a receiver-driven distributed multi-source streaming mechanism. We first design the process and the main control algorithm of the proposed mechanism, to enhance the transmission quality and to protect the network fairness with traditional TCP flow at the same time.Subsequently, this paper proposed a content-aware multi-path packet distribution algorithm. First we study the different importance of different types of frames. On this basis, we proposed a multi-path packet distribution algorithm, with which the network could better adapt to the characteristics of multimedia streaming. Finally, this paper established a simulation scenario for the proposed algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed multi-source distributed video streaming mechanism can effectively improve the quality of media streaming to meet the demand of future network development.
