As the pioneers of computer network research and construction, campus network plays an irreplaceable role in the teaching, research, recruitment, employment, learning and life of the university.But with the continual increment of the network equipment.gradually expand of the network scale, and the increasingly complex of the network construction,new challenges has put to the network maintenance department. As a service sector, how to improve the user satisfaction degree is a worth considering problem to every network administrator. In the aspect of technology, network management system can help to effectively monitoring and control variety network equipment and resource.so as to grantee the security,reliable and effective run of the network, detect the network failures early.In the management aspect,receving user’s repair reports intime and give them feedback of the network failures distribution and the process progress have a great significance for improve customer’s satisfaction,work assignments and staff management.In the thesis,combining the rearity of our campus network,a network management system supporting the failure traking is designed and implemented.Beyond the classical network management functions,the management of complecity and heterogenous network devices,the management of failure process is integrated. The network management system has the function of online user failure report, device automatical alarm, and the log of troubleshooting. The system can manage the full troubleshooting process.With the network management system, network management effectivity is improved, and the guiding basis is give to network ferformance evaluation. In the otherhand, the failure tracking guide the management of workload and staff.Firstly, On the basis of analysis of the project background and research status and the planing of the study substance, detailed requirement analysis and structural design are performed.The related technologies and development environment are discussed.The key technologies such as automatic topology discovery algorithms and multi-threaded data collection techniques are studied. The implementation principle and process of the system models are described in detail.The network management system proposed in the thesis has passed the test in real campus network environment. The test results show that the system has the features of stability, reliably, operation intuitively, accuracy in data collection and processing. Failures track management can reflect the failure process and workload visually. The functions discussed in the thesis have been implemented.The system runs stably without any impact on the network under a reasonable monitoring tasks load.
