With the rapid development of the global economy, it increases the oil consumption and demand of various countries, which are no longer satisfied with the oil supplying from their own or neighboring countries. Due to the maritime transport of oil in wide range, it increases the risk of oil spills at sea. Because the oil from different regions have different characteristic, it requires relative control measures of oil storage and transportation. For avoiding risks and reducing losses, it is necessary to trace the sources of crude oil and refined products. To solve this problem, the database management system for chemical fingerprint of crude oil and refined products was designed in this work.First, experimental data from our group was treated, and the reasons of choosing n-alkanes, stable isotope ratio mass of carbon, petroporphyrins, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and ratio of nickel as oil fingerprints was explained, then the relative chemical fingerprint was provided. Secondly, a need analysis and total design of system for the chemical fingerprint management was made. Because of this system using a three-tier structure of the C/S as system architecture and model, it enhances the system security, improves the efficiency and makes maintenance much easier. Next, according to the actual development situation, the SQL Server2005and the Visual C#2005were chosen as database and development tool, facing to an object method applied to program design, completing development and testing the system.Based on study characteristics, the atomic absorption spectrometry to determinate the metal elements such as nickel and vanadium in the crude oils was introduced in the oil fingerprint database management system, making the nickel and vanadium ratio as an important parameters of the database. The UV-visible spectrophotometry and liquid mass spectrometry are also used to analysis the porphyrins in crude oil. The data of the porphyrins are also important parameters in the database. The stable isotope ratio mass spectrometry is used to determine the stable carbon isotope ratio, and the constant wavelength synchronous fluorescence spectrophotometry is used to determine fluorescence in crude oil. Both of them are also important parameters in the database. This database has an unique characteristics, namely, overcoming the disadvantage of identification oneness in other database system. It is greatly improve the accuracy of the database management system.
