GPON technology, which is featured with flexible bandwidth, good management function and high transmission efficiency, has already been widely used in access networks. At the same time, almost all of the metro networks have experienced great difficulties in supporting a huge amount of increasing packet service. In order to reduce the capital expenditure(CAPEX) and operating expense(OPEX) of operators’ network, it is necessary to introduce a novel adaption technology which could provide the unified adaption for various services as well as powerful OAM features into the access of metro networks.We propose a GPON-based transmission hierarchy (GTH) for metro network. Then we studied the GTH’s performance on supporting wireless backhaul service. After that, we study the performance of GTH technology in mesh network by improving some parameters.Firstly, I analysed the metro network and GPON technology. Secondly, I proposed GTH and compared its DBA technology to other DBA technologies that can be applied to metro network. Then, simulation programmes and OPNET platform are designed to study the GTH’s performance. Finally, I analysed the simulation results.
