With the rapid development of the mobile communication technology, the networks now have more and more features of Ubiquitous Network, which means any people are able to access network at anytime and anywhere. Also, more and more devices have the network-access ability, and each kind of devices have their own features. In this context, the services should be updated with the growth of the network to automaticaly adapt to the situation of the users who request it. This project is to put a research on the service adapting in the ubiquitous network, and a multimedia system with service adapting support is designed and implement in this issue. As a new form of network, the ubiquitous network needs a more advanced core network as the central control architecture. The IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) is considered to be an important part of the next generation network, with its reasonable call control process, reliable service quality assurance mechanisms, and flexible service delivery, and in this issue we use IMS as the central control architecture of the ubiquitous network. Based on this architecture, the description mechanism, collection mechanism and storage mechanism is introduced, and the context carrying mechanism based on SIP PUBLISH and access mechanism based on Sh interface is used in this research. In the aspect of multimedia adapting, a multimedia server with resource-adapting support is developed, which can adjust the multimedia resource automatically according to the context information. At the end of this paper a test case is used to verify our adapting system.
