Field-Bus is a new fast-growing industry control system accompanied with industry automation and distributed network, and as one of the most important filed-bus system, CAN is widely used in harsh fields such as auto-electronic, medical device and industry control area due to its good real-time property, high reliability and flexible extendibility. UPS, known as Uninterrupted Power Supply, which could provide electricity to critical device in case of power failure, is also broadly applied in various fields such as data centers, banks, and railway transportation. Especially in the emergency economies like China, "Cloud computing" and urban rail system are developing rapidly, which provide vast market and development space for UPS application.Because of the internal comprehensive algorithms and complicated control logics, modern UPS always needs cooperation of several micro-controllers to fulfill its functionality, while several UPS units are also needed to be parallel-installed for volume-expansion and redundancy-improvement purposes. To address above problems, the article firstly introduces protocol CAN2. OB and advantages of TMS320F2812 eCAN module, then takes ISO/OS I model as reference and designs a three-layer communication protocol which including application layer, transport layer and data-link layer. The new protocol not only overcomes the drawback of CAN2.OB protocol that each frame can only take 8 bytes of effective data, transmits data with various bytes freely among different internal and external controllers, but also matches the UPS application closely thru interface of data pool, fulfills the UPS demands of real-time communication perfectly.Meanwhile, for the time-critical data, fast frame is designed as a supplebment of CAN three-layer protocol. The fast frame can access the mai lbox of eCAN module directly and accomplish the communication in a very short time, providing a very necessary alternative for some core-control data of UPS application. Both CAN three-layer protocol and fast frame meet UPS communication needs well and lay a solid foundation for UPS application. Only with them, could UPS provide its desired functionality to customer.
