As one of the most valuable and potential research of the biometric identification technology, the iris recognition has a high degree of accuracy, high stability, high security and non-contact unmatched by other biometric identification technology. With the development of iris recognition technology, it was widely used in various fields such as airports, banks, finance, public security, border control point’s security, network, e-commerce and so on. Therefore the iris recognition system plays an important role in the modern society. However, the high cost, high power, slow recognition speed, inconvenient carrying of the existing iris recognition system has become an important bottleneck which restricts its development. Therefore, it is great significance to the development of iris recognition technology that design high precision, high reliability, low cost, low power consumption, easy carrying of the embedded iris recognition system.The main research content and results are as follows:Due to the problem of the thick eyelashes, eyelids, and other noise information to the precise positioning of the iris, the paper presents a fast iris location method supporting for embedded system on the basis of the theory of the iris recognition technology. The method uses the projection method and the round match detection calculus algorithm to position the inner edge of the iris, and employs the circular geometric features and the least squares method to precise position the external edge of the iris. Experimental results show that this method can quickly and accurately locate the inner and outer edge of the iris and reduce the blindness searching of the traditional positioning algorithms. Meanwhile, it could be a good support for embedded system and improves the performance of the system.Due to the characteristics of the iris recognition system, the intrinsically-safe technology, low-cost and low-power design are used for circuit design so that the system has strong anti-interference ability, high security and easy carrying.The microprocessor core S3C6410of Samsung’s ARM11is selected as the control core of the system, and the inexpensive and effective COMS acquisition instrument of the iris capture device is configurated. The hardware circuit is modular in design, which completed design and implementation of the iris image acquisition, image storage, USB transfers, network communications, wireless WIFI function module.According to the hardware design, the software design is modular based on the Linux development platform and the C language. The Linux real-time operating system, USB, LCD touch screen, network, WIFI Peripheral Interface driver are designed and transplanted. The iris recognition application framework is built that based on multi-threading technology, and the iris recognition algorithms is packaged and transplanted. Meanwhile the human-computer interaction system is developed on the Qtopia platform, which mainly contains the functional modules such as user login, network management, image acquisition, iris extraction, iris matching and database.The test results show that the embedded iris recognition system reaches the design requirements of the functional indicators and technical indicators, which has high stability, real timeliness, accuracy, network-based, low cost, low power consumption, easy to carry and so on. It well compensated for the lack of the existing iris recognition system and has great significance and reference value in the actual application.
