With the rapid development of wireless and electronic technologies, PEDs are increasingly beingcarried on aboard by passengers. And in recent years, airlines are seeking to develop wireless accessin aircraft business, so that passengers can send text messages and surf the internet anytime andanywhere. These services become profitable growth point to airlines, and also passengers can havebetter flying experience. However, behind these advanced wireless technologies, there are securityrisks. No matter the PEDs passengers carried on aboard or wireless internet hot spots that airlines setup, are all likely to cause electromagnetic interference to aircraft communication and navigationdevices, affecting the normal function of airborne equipment, even seriously threaten the safety ofaircraft flight. Therefore, investigations on EMC between PEDs and aircraft communications andnavigation equipment have important meaning in practical engineering implement. The researches on the EMC problems in this paper are presented as follows:1Mathematical models on three elements of EMC are established through theoreticalanalysis. Then the radiation characteristics of PEDs are analyzed. And the characteristics ofaircraft sensitive receiving equipment, such as communication and navigation devices, arediscussed. To figure out the third element of EMC, the coupling between PEDs inside the cabinand receiving antenna outside the cabin are investigated.2Before airplane model simulation, this paper simulated some simplified models such asrectangular and cylindrical cavity with apertures. And the simulation results are compared withexisting experimental results. To ensure the accuracy of simulation results, a number of CSTapplication techniques are acquired.3The A319and A320airplane are taken as the research samples. IPL between antennasof avionic devices such ATC and PEDs inside the cabin is calculated by CST simulation. Thewindows locations which can cause largest interference to avionic device are determinedthrough data analysis.4EMC prediction is made base on the simulation data obtained in prior analysis. And theEMC software is developed by C++on MFC platform. The software can be used to analyzeEMC between typical PEDs and airborne equipment.
