Recently the state monitoring and testing has been playing a key role in modern industry.The smart instrument concerned is widely used in computers made up of CPU board,graphicsand video board, network board, intelligent communication board module and so on.Along withthe rapid development of information technology and embedded technology, it’s very importantfor the hand-held testing instrument which becomes small and cheap while with sound capabilityand portable in online testing, troubleshooting and repair of system equipments.Base on the background of hand-held testing instrument, this paper analyses thedevelopment of portable testing devices both at home and abroad, and presents low-power,low-cost and highly performance ARM microprocessor for the handheld devices processorsolution; introduces well transplanted, good stability, customizable and supporting multiplehardware platforms embedded Linux for the software platform and gives a solution of platformdesign based on ARM processor and linux embedded system, uses asynchronous serialcommunications and network communications interface to realize the acquisition and processingof diagnostic and testing information for the device under test.This document consists of two parts, the design of hardware platform as well as softwareplatform, and the former is the focus of this paper. In the first part, we mainly discussed the corecircuit and auxiliary circuit design based on the hardware platform, with more detaileddescription of each part and its implementing method which contains the design of the CPUcircuit, clock circuit, reset circuit design, design of memory circuit design circuit design, ethernet,serial communication interface circuit design, power supply management circuit design, USBdesign, SD card memory module circuit design, LCD and touch screen circuit and audio circuitdesign.In the second part, we mainly discussed the basic software platform design and applicationsoftware platform design.With a briefly introducation of the process from the building of crosscompiling environment to how to support graphical interface of the embedded Linuxconstruction, we presented a detailed description of the test information to the datacommunication protocol setting and asynchronous serial communication program and networkcommunication program design as well as how to complete the preliminary test function.In the end, we analyzed the result of the feature debugging and application test and a reportis given.
