Radar target tracking, with its rapid development, has been widely and success-fully applied in military and civilian, such as ground surveillance radar and marineradar. But for the small target tracking and maneuvering target tracking, there are stillmany problems in traditional methods. In my thesis, we investigate waveform agilesensing in tracking application. We break the conventional radar processing, and intro-duce a feed-back loop from the radar data processing to waveform generator. With thesignal ambiguity function, we setup the relationship between the target state estimatevariance and the transmit signal parameters. The waveform generator can select thebest waveform class or parameter adaptively in order to get more estimator improve-ment. Based on this framework, the thesis completes the theoretical analysis, systemdesign and simulation. In general, there are three main contribution of my work:·Deriving the mathematical relationship between radar transmitter waveform pa-rameters and the state estimation accuracy at the basis of the classical estimationtheory. Checking the feasibility of waveform agile sensing for target tracking bycomputer simulations.·Designing a PRI variable waveform agile tracking system, building the systemmodel and develop the optimal waveform selection algorithm. Doing simulationfor the verification of the system principle and the application in maneuveringtarget tracking, Compared with the traditional approach, the proposed algorithmcan adjust the transmitter waveform parameters adaptive to achieve better track-ing accuracy.·Relying on the project of the ISL lab, we design the hardware and develop thepart of algorithm of a shipboard data processing system. Trying a new comput-ing architecture, high-speed serial data transmission, external expansion memoryand highspeed realtime DSP algorithm. All this work achieves very good results.
