Wireless LAN technology is rapidly becoming a crucial component of computernetworks and is growing by leaps and bounds. With progress and expansion comes theneed for faster technology and higher transfer rates, improve the transfer rates hasbecome a hot point at present. In this thesis, a micro-strip array antenna as the hardwareof the DBF antenna is designed for WLAN resulting in increases data transfer rate andimprove the transmission efficiency.The main contents are as follows:First, the fundamental theory of WLAN and antenna are introduced. Relevantresearch indicated that improve the performance of WLAN by DBF. Based on this idea,design the array element for DBF antenna. The model is proposed based on the report ofuniversity of Auckland.Second, the microstrip antenna analysis methods are summarized. The method offinite element analysis is introduced. Based on analysis the generation mechanism andperformance of circular polarization, the cell original configuration is proposed.Circular polarized wave be achieved by designing a corner truncated square patch witha cross slot.Third, based on the theory we researched, the design scheme of the project is given.Initially a corner truncated square patch antenna is researched and designed. Theperformance of the element antenna is optimized by Ansoft HFSS, form a2×2arrayantenna with the patch designed, then simulated and optimized the array by AnsoftHFSS. The fed network of the array antenna is designed and optimized. Analyzediscontinuous of micro-strip circuit affect on the fed network and explore changes ofperformance for array antenna with different antenna element spacing. Finally, resultsfrom simulation shows, the antenna Gain is12.9dB at5.6GHz, the angle which AxialRatio less than3dB is almost upper half-space.
