Wide-format digital inkjet printer is a kind of typical inkjet printing equipmentwith complex system structure and high-tech difficulty to design and develop, whosekey technology involves with such science subjects as machinery, motor drive, powerelectronics, data communication and image processing. With the development of oursociety, the application field of wide-format inkjet printing products has beenexpanded continuously, the need of it has been grown increasingly, and the usage ofthe wide-format digital inkjet printer has become more and more extensive, whichmeans a good market prospect. Therefore, it is of great significance to study anddevelop a wide-format digital inkjet printer with high performance and highcost-effectiveness.According to the deficiencies of motion control system and raster imageprocessor (RIP) system of wide-format digital inkjet printer both at home and abroad,as well as the development direction of its related technology, this paper, combiningwith the project of research on wide-format digital inkjet printer (a project financed byChongqing Science and Technology Tackling Plan), analyzes the mechanical structure,principle of work and workflow of wide-format digital inkjet printer, then optimizesthe output speed and image quality of the RIP in terms of image interpolation; Toensure the final printing speed and quality of the printer, design of the precise motioncontrol has been done. Finally, some corresponding tests have been done at theprototype.This paper analyzes the basic principle of the image magnification in RIP of thewide-format digital inkjet printer, and provides the analysis and comparison of thefrequently-used interpolation algorithm for RIP from the time domain and frequencydomain, then proposes a new mixed interpolation algorithm based on edge detectionand details its principle and specific method, at last makes experiments withMATLAB and proves the usability and effectiveness of the new algorithm.This paper analyzes the mechanical structure and motion control requirement ofthe stitch mechanism and paper advance mechanism of the wide-format digital inkjetprinter, and designs the corresponding plan and strategy of the motion control basedon the existing main control system with DSP+FPGA. For stitch mechanism, stitchbrushless DC motor’s acceleration and deceleration design and speed feedback control design with PID have been accomplished. For paper advance mechanism, the steppingmotor’s subdivision driver design and acceleration and deceleration design have beencompleted. In addition, analyses of the ink droplet placement and the correspondingcompensation design have been done.Experimental results show that the RIP system with new image magnificationalgorithm shows better performance and motion control design can ensure thesteadiness and reliability of the printing system, which reaches the desired objectivesin the mass.
