There are various foreign fibers in cottons and we have to pick them out or get ridof before processing, otherwise these foreign fibers will influence the product qualityand bring great loss to cotton spinning enterprise, The traditional ways of checkingforeign fiber are mainly by hands, the disadvantages of this way are evident: theintension is heavy, the product quality is unsteady, the efficiency is low, so it’s urgentand a trend to develop the detecting system of foreign fibers in cotton, as the corecoponent of the system, video system determines its performance, so the research ofhigh-resolution vedio-image real-time processing system plays an import role in thisarea, it has great significance.According to the character of embedded system, this article analyzes theadvantages of DSP and FPGA in video-image processing system, constructes theembedded video-image processing system based on DSP&FPGA structure, and TI’shigh performance DSP TMS320DM642is used as the core processor in this system, itextends and manages external memory by EMIF interface, uses ROM bootmode,designed the bootloader program with external FLASH, and realizes algorithm of thesystem. Altera cylone’s FPGA EP1C6Q240C8is used to realize data acquisition andpretreatment, it manages its memory by SDRAM controller, uses asynchronousFIFOs to implement data transmission and cache between asynchronous clockdomains, utilizes medium filtering to strength the weak signal. this article analysiseson the characteristics of more than ten familiar foreign fibers in cotton, researchesalgorithm on colour, texture, uniformity and a lot of other aspects, finally, gives out amathod for defining the best threshold value of pixel-based and decision making unit.Giving full play to the advantages of DSP and FPGA, the system makes themcooperative work to realize all the functions through data acquisition to dataprocessing. The system is characterized in small volume, low cost, low power, fast processing speed, high real-time performance, it is easy to be developed and extended,when applied to detecting system of foreign fibers in cotton, the real-time performanceand detection rate are statisfied with the basic requirements of industrial field.
