Multimedia streaming applications have been successfully deployed in the Internet and P2P-based Video on Demand (P2P VoD) is becoming more and more popular with up to millions users at any time. As an important part of the 863 Project“IPv6 stereoscopic video on demand system”, the aim is to design a dedicated high-bandwidth system for the IPv6 VoD system and offer service for end-users. The key is to provide more suitable of P2P VoD topologies and protocols for the premise. The paper measures and analyzes the software PPLive, and summarizes the characters of large-scale P2PVoD overlay network. The system uses both passive sniffing and active crawling to analyze the channels and the clients. A software PPCrawl is designed to collect snapshots of users’activity. With the results, the system is designed on the base of the algorithm of P2VoD. Each peer in the network has the principle to choose its father peers and cache packets. The system realizes joining, skipping, leaving actions of the peers. The topology is a mixed type of tree-based and mesh-based, which allows users to skip while watching and reduce system jitter.Using GT-ITM topology generator to construct the basic network, and evaluate the system from initial delay, number of re-connection, skipping delay and other aspects. The results shows that the system server has little bigger pressure for server than P2VoD but 20% quicker for peers to join the network. Also a skipping action is realized by the system and gets half of the joining time.
