With the development of missile technology, the requirements of RFSS (Radio Frequency Simulation System) are also rising. Large-scale, broadband has become the development trends of the RFSS, resulting increase in system complexity and calibration workload. It is a challenging task to complete the necessary testing in a limited time, to eliminate errors and to ensure the accuracy of the entire system meets the design. This paper based on a project of building a large scale broadband RFSS, and studied the calibration technology for such system. The result of such study has an instructional significance in the calibration work of RFSS.This paper first introduced the principals of large scale broadband RFSS and the calibration technology to improve the simulation accuracy. The principle and structure of calibration system was also introduced, and the performance of each module is analyzed. In order to correct the error of simulated target location, we need to analyze a variety of sources of error. This article did a theoretical error analysis of antenna array’s feed system and receiving system, discussed the impact of errors in a triple-antenna array upon the synthesized target location, and the errors which may exist in the receiving system. This paper also analyzed the impact of multi-path effects upon the received signals in microwave darkroom. Then from the perspective of the calibration system design, this paper discussed the functions and implementations of various calibration procedures, and carried out the flow chart of each calibration procedure providing a complete solution. Finally, depending on the performances in different frequency bands, we proposed two error models and corresponding amendments to the array control algorithm. Taking into account the characteristics of large-scale broadband RFSS, the error models avoided scanning the whole array, effectively reduced the testing effort, and improved the flexibility of the test. After verification, these two modified algorithms had good positioning precision correction results, and were finally accepted by the project.
