With the trend of achieving low cost, compact size and broad bandwidth in the development of the wireless communication technology in recent years, the study of broad band antenna has become a research focus. Further more in the process of developing the multi-mode satellite navigation technology, the broad-band CP antenna has become the priority in the research field. Against the background introduced above, the paper, taking the importance of the broad-band CP antenna to the development of the multi-mode satellite navigation technology into consideration, will mainly focus on the study of two kinds of antenna technologies, including the broad-band CP technology for the microstrip antenna and the miniaturization and broad-brand technology for the helical CP antenna.The whole paper will be divided into two parts. The first part deals with the research and design of the broad-band CP antenna applied to the satellite navigation frequency band. To begin with, a brief introduction of the basic theory of the microstrip antenna will be given. On the basis of the theory mentioned above, the broad-band CP antenna that covers the GPS-L1 band, the GLONASS-L1 band, the GALILEO-E6 band and the Beidou-1.561GHz band is designed with the adoption of the capacitive feeding technology and the round corner cutting technology of the rectangular microstrip CP antenna.The second part focuses on the research and design of the single-arm helical antenna that is applied to all the bands of the four satellite navigation systems. On the basis of the foundamental working principles of the helical antenna, two kinds of miniaturized single-arm helical antennas are designed, applied to all the navigation bands of GPS, GLONASS, GALIEO and GNSS. The rectangular piece matching technology of the single-are helical antenna, the miniaturization technology to cyclically broaden the width of helical antenna and the miniaturization technology to broaden the width of helical antenna are applied in the above research and design. On the foundation above, a great amount of simulate research of the antenna is conducted through the electromagnetic simulation software, HFSS, with further optimization design following. The practical processing and testing of the antenna is conducted according to the results got from the design. What’s more, the origin of the errors is analyzed through the comparison between the results got from simulation and those from testing.The results both from simulation and practical experiments all prove that all the technical indexes of the three kinds of antennas designed in this paper have fulfilled the requirements of the design, with certain practical value.
