With the rapid development of information technology, especially Internet technology,network technology has penetrated into people’s life, work, study and other fields. Gainingknowledge through the Internet has become an important means of human learning. Learnersdo the learning autonomously through the network free from the restriction of time and space,and meanwhile get access to more learning resources. These help to improve learners’motivation, self-learning ability, and learning efficiency in future learning, which is the mosteffective way to lifelong education. Learning is the way for people to achieve the all-rounddevelopment and study on the autonomous learning mode under the network environment is abeneficial exploration for establishing lifelong education system.The autonomous learning under the network environment is a learning process in whichlearners use the computer network as a learning tool, take the initiative to decide on learninggoals and content and study with suitable learning strategies under the teacher’s guidance andhelp in the form of interaction so as to build their own knowledge system.Through the literature search and reading, This paper finds and points out the presentresearch situation of the autonomous learning home and abroad, the existing problems in theautonomous learning under the network environment. Supported by the research on therelevant basic theories of the autonomous leaning under the network environment, the basicconcept and connotation of autonomous learning under the network environment are furtheridentified and the key factors influencing the autonomous learning under networkenvironment are proposed. Through the analysis of the relevant factors, taking collegestudents as the object and college English course as the study content, six-stages autonomouslearning mode under the network environment is established and based on this model collegeEnglish autonomous learning network platform is designed and developed. In specificapplications, the ability of the students in the use of computer and network is fully considered;the undergraduate students of computer science in the Northeast Petroleum University whoare relatively good at the computer practical application are chosen as the practiced objects tolearn College English autonomously under the network environment. This study havingtheoretical basis, the concrete practice and application and feasible feature can provideteachers with a research paradigm.
