The new century, the new objects of English study, the new standardof English teaching and the new textbook are the frequently-appearedtopics in the English teaching field. The new textbook is a big challengeto us, that is to say, so it requires that senior high school English teachershave to teach English with the new textbook as an approach rather thanteach the new textbook. As we all know, the main and ultimate aim ofEnglish teaching is to cultivate students’ communicative competence.How to help students develop communicative competence? That is aproblem every English teacher must tackle. When I use the new Englishtextbooks, I adopt the method of “whole-part-whole†and deem thediscourse analysis as the central teaching task. In the teaching, I payattention to developing not only the students’ language ability, but alsothe language communicative competence. And I also have the students asthe main subject in the class. The students not only learn and master thelanguage knowledge, understand the complicated texts but also widen therange of their knowledge. It develops the students’ intelligence and theability to think logically, and greatly arouses the students’ interest inlearning English and helps them to acquire better communicativecompetence. This thesis argues that Whole Language Approach is aneffective way to develop students’ communicative competence. So I seekto start from teaching practice, combine the advanced teaching idea ofWhole Language and the new textbook, and conduct a survey about thebest way to teach the new textbooks.This thesis is composed of6chapters. Chapter1introduces theimportance of my research, and the current situation of English teachingin Yijinhuoluo Senior High School. Chapter2is about the literaturereview, which includes the introduction of the whole language approach and the application of the whole language approach. Chapter3is theresearch process, including subjects, materials, instruments andprocedures. Chapter4is data collection and analysis. Then come chapter5and chapter6that are about the discussion and implication, theconclusion and the disadvantages.The result shows that the whole language approach can arouse thestudents’ interest of English study, and improve the reading ability,confidence and creativity. |
