| The Task-based Language Teaching approach has always been the hot topic among the discussion of the teaching of English reading in senior high schools. So far, there have been a lot of cognitive researches which offer a solid theoretical basis for the research and prove that the Task-based Language Teaching approach can help improve students’ English ability in senior high schools.The thesis first introduces the background, intention, significance, methods and outline of the research. Then it elaborates on the definition, characteristics, principles, theoretical basis of the Task-based Language Teaching approach and its research home and abroad. After that, it makes an analysis of the definition, model, teaching aims, reading skills and strategies, reading activities and the purpose of English reading.Based on the research of predecessors’ theory and on the methods of observation and experiment, the thesis aims to study the Task-based Language Teaching approach in the application to the teaching of English reading in senior high schools by comparing the traditional teaching approach with the Task-based Language Teaching approach. The empirical research tries to use whether applying the Task-based Language Teaching approach and different English ability levels as the independent factors and use the two English reading test scores resulted from the subjects as the dependent factor. The subjects are103students in Grade One from Fuzhou Pingdong Senior High School. There are respectively49students and54students from two different classes. The Task-based Language Teaching approach is carried out in the experimental class. The traditional teaching method is carried out in the controlled class. In the experiment, the subjects receive two tests, questionnaires and interviews.After the experiment, the thesis finds that the application of the Task-based Language Teaching approach to the teaching of English reading in senior high schools can help enhance the students’ interest in English reading, improve the students’ English reading results and promote the students’ English reading ability. At the same time, the result of the experiment proves that there is still room in the research of the Task-based Language Teaching approach in the future. |
