The Research On The Quality Of The Local University Principals

The study of the quality of university principals has been a hot issue among academiccircles. We find that most of the literatures choose the principals of universities titled as211,985and Ministry-owned university, as their objects through the analysis andsummary of the relevant research literatures, while the studies aiming at the principals oflocal university are very limited. It is well known that local university is an important partand occupies an important position in China’s higher education system, making it animportant basis for Higher Education Reform and development. As the principals of localuniversity, they play an important role in the development of local university. So thispaper deeply analyzes the necessary qualities of local university based on interview andquestionnaire survey.This paper is an initial results of the Ministry of Education Key topic(No.DIA100313),titled as "The Research on qualities of university principals ".The study begins inFebruary2010and lasts more than a year. During these time, the study group interviewswith14principals of13provincial universities in Shandong Province and issuequestionnaires to them, which applies a wealth of material for the writing of this paper.This paper takes local university for study. First, I discuss the background andsignificance of the quality of local university principals, and then I review research statusof the quality of local university principals. On this basis, I elaborate the researchmethods and ideas in this paper. Second, by combining the interviews and research, Ibuild a conceptual model of quality structure of local university principals. Through theuse of factor analysis in the SPSS statistical analysis software, I correct the conceptualmodel of quality structure of local university principals, to come to the provincialuniversity presidents quality structure correction model. Third, based on the correctedmodel, I analyze the current situation and the problems of the quality of local universityprincipals by using the related statistics methods. Finally, I propose the development pathof the quality of in three aspects including the local university presidents themselves,government and society. The innovation of this paper is mainly reflected in the following two aspects:Firstly, the topic is relatively novel. The research literatures on the quality ofprincipals in local university are very few in China’s academic circles; Secondly, this paperbuilds the quality structure conceptual model for local university principals, then amendsthe research model through Statistical analysis methods.
