The discussion text, the same as the literary text and the practical text, is one of theemphases of the reading text in the senior Chinese compulsory course. So it is also the keypart of the college entrance examination. However, in our study, the majority of our teachersand students haven’t paid enough attention to it. As the result of the test indicated, most highschool students are poor in the discussion text. This paper address the problems studentswere faced with in the discussion text on the basis of investigation and research. It alsosummarizes the types and causes of students’ errors. Then it puts forward some correspondingstrategies and methods by combining the teaching of the senior Chinese discussion text withthe practice of students’ exams.Introduction provides an overview of the important role that the discussion text plays inthe reading teaching and the college entrance exam, and exposes that most students overlookthe discussion text in the practical learning and that the mass of the educators also haven’tpaid much attention to it. All these elements contribute to this paper.The first part of the paper sets out the stylistic features of the discussion text and analyzesthe proposition and characteristics of the discussion text, basing on the JiangSu collegeentrance examination. The paper tells that the text is argumentative, opinionated and is alsowith scopes of materials. In recent years, the exam in JiangSu province adopts subjectivequestions in the form of short-answer and presentation of topics to check the grasp of thediscussion text. And the two basic testing propositions are analyzing the structure of thearticle and summarizing the perspective of the author. The two main basic points of exams areunderstanding the meaning of the sentence and summing up the inductive elements. Lastly,the analysis techniques and language features are the potential test centers easy to overlook.The second part analyses the types and causes of errors in students’ answering to thequestions from the discussion text through materials analysis and survey interviews. The maintypes are: crossed purposes, incomplete points, conceptions out of test, the weak logic,answers simplified inappropriately, and lack of accuracy and coherence. On the other hand,the causes are: not carefully examining the topics, impetuous blindly, anxious for success,poor analytic capacity and bad answering habits.For the above, the third part puts forward the concrete strategies from the view of teachers by combining with practice. First of all, teachers guide the students to grasp the key wordsand sentences on the text, to sum up the central meaning, to analyze the view and attitude, tounderstand the structure and to clear the ideas of the article. Moreover, teachers should guidethe students to read the important paragraphs of the text, and develop students’ ability ofquestion inquiry and application of transferring knowledge. Finally, teachers can help studentsovercome impatience and form a peaceful state of mind.In the fourth part, the paper seek the solution from the perspective of students’ answeringquestions through the survey and investigation. On one hand, students have to attain not onlythe explicit test requirements on the text but also the proposition characteristics, and explorethe principles and methods suitable for themselves. On the other hand, students should learnto examine the questions carefully, regulate the answer as well as express accurately.
