Moral education occupies a very important place in school teaching activities.Every subject, in terms of either its content or its teaching process, contains abundantmoral resources. English, as any other language, bears affluent culture, and because ofits humanity and practicalness, it can be used to cultivate students’ values, patriotism,environmental awareness, social morality consciousness, and moral feelings, etc, withan aim of improving their overall quality.Nowadays, there exist many kinds of social problems, such as moral decline,indifference, lack of environmental unconsciousness and social morality, which giverise to the tension of the relationship between human beings, human and environment,human and society. School education which plays an important part in our educationbears a much more arduous burden. Subject teaching is an essential part of schoolteaching activities. Therefore, how to realize the moral function of subject teachinghas become the focus of research for the educational workers in recent years, andmost of the researches are about moral education infiltration.In respective of the moral infiltration of every subject, the author made aresearch on the current situation of moral infiltration in Jinan. This thesis starts byclarifying the different concepts of moral education, subject moral education, moraleducation infiltration and moral education infiltration in English teaching activity; inaddition, it expounds the theoretical foundation for moral education infiltration insubject teaching. Then in order to understand the present situation of moral educationimplementation in English teaching in senior high schools, the author makes a surveyin respective of English teachers’ cognition of morality infiltration, moralityinfiltration implementation in English teaching process during class time andafter-class activities in Senior High School Attached to Shandong Normal University,one of the key senior high schools in Jinan and Jinan the Ninth Senior High School.The result shows that the majority of English teachers accept the idea of infiltrating morality in English teaching process; however this idea has not been put into practicein a broad way. Then the author analyzes the reason for this phenomenon of moraleducation inefficiency from the following three aspects:First, it is the lack oftheoretical foundation for subject morality education infiltration, which results in thedeficient theoretical support in English teaching practice; Second, it is the prevailingutilitarianism in learning, which is reflected in not only the teaching process but alsothe learning activity; Third, English teachers’ lack of teaching methods and emotionsbecomes the barrier to morality infiltration practice. Finally, based on the problemstated above, the author provides some suggestions, including the comprehension ofmoral contents in English text books, the meticulous lesson plans of reading, grammarand vocabulary teaching cases, teachers’ model demonstration, after-class activitiesand the construction of classroom.From the research, to achieve the goal of cultivating students’ comprehensivelanguage ability as well as their moral quality, English teachers are supposed toconvey the knowledge and skills. Besides, they have to pay much attention to moraleducation infiltration in teaching process in a way that is subtle but efficient.Hopefully, this study may be of reference value for upcoming teaching practice.
