In2004, the China’s Committee for Authorizing Textbook in Primary and Middle School passed the Senior High Oxford English textbook series, and since2007, It has been used in most China’s provinces. Aimed at developing students’ abilities of using English and the spirit of cooperation, Project Section is added to the textbook, which is the highlight and important part. However, from the survey, the author find that most teachers ignore the importance of the teaching of Project Section to develop the students’ skills of using English. As a result, they use English less and less and gradually lose the interest of learning English. So, the author puts forward an assumption:The application of cooperative learning in the teaching of the Project Section can increase students’ interest, build up their confidence, develop good learning habit and finally form cooperative spirit so as to help creatively do the project work and improve students’ score. In order to prove the assumption, the author carried out the experiment with the students of two classes in Grade One in Dongshan Middle School in Xiangxiang, Hunan province for a term to discuss the impact cooperative learning strategies have on the teaching of Project Section. After the experiment, the author compared the final term exam score with the mid-term sore and conducted a survey. The statistics proved the assumption, and the author concluded that while using cooperative learning strategy, we must remember to group students reasonably, improve their cooperative skills step by step, use different methods, monitor the whole procedure, require everyone to take part in the learning activity and give timely evaluation.Due to the limited time and condition, there are many shortages, for example, the number of samples is not enough, and the experiment is conducted in a key middle school, which is not representational. But the author still thinks the research is meaningful theoretically and practically.
