As one of the most important measures to evaluate the students’ English comprehensive ability, English reading ability is the key point. The most common problem that the Senior High School students meet with in the process of English learning is reading learning. In fact, reading teaching is the main approach for students to master English and apply it in other learning. We can’t emphasize the importance of reading teaching too much. Also, it has already drawn much attention to many researches at home and abroad.New English Curriculum Standards of Senior High School issued by Education ministry in2003put forward a task for students. It requires that the students not only master a polished reading strategy in reading but also have the ability to use it in self-reading. Since New English Curriculum Standards of Senior High School came into effect, almost every Senior high school has been doing some researches on English reading teaching, exploring some better methods to improve reading teaching. For this reason, English reading teaching has changed a lot in some ways.Recently, there is a new model of instruction, named as "guided learning plan", spreading widely in many senior high schools in China. "guided learning plan" also means a teaching method of " Learner-centered plan", which refers to the model in which the teacher design the "learning case" for each class while the students apply it into the whole process of their study. Cooperation, exploration and independence learning can help the students fulfill the learning task. As for English teaching, this kind of teaching model has its own advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, in order to better use "guided learning plan" to improve English reading teaching and learning, the author investigates the teachers and the students in Dongshan Senior High school, which can help find out the certain advantages of this kind of model. Based on the results of the feedback, the author designed some better learning cases that can meet the needs of the reading teaching and learning. In order to prove its effectiveness, the author carried out an experiment in two classes of the same grade. The results showed that the model of "guided learning plan" has far more advantages than the traditional teaching model. But the author also points one more point, that is, when designing and carrying out this kind of teaching model, a serious attitude should be emphasized. Only in such a positive way can we make the most of this model of English reading teaching.
