This thesis focuses on the methods which should be used in English classroom teaching in middle schools in China. According to English Teaching Syllabus for Junior Middle School, EFL teachers should put students to the central position in classroom teaching, i.e., learner-centered teaching. In this thesis, investigations have been done in some classrooms in four junior middle schools in Anshan to see whether or not the students are emerged in learner-centered environment in learning and teaching process. This thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter One is the introduction of the current state of English classroom teaching. Chapter Two is a review of literature on learner-centered teaching. Chapter Three gives an account of the current study on learner-centered English classroom teaching. It describes methodology in terms of subjects, instruments, methods and procedures of the experiment. Findings are produced in the fourth chapter. All these data prove that English classroom teaching in these schools is mainly"teacher-dominated", but not"learner-centered". Thus some proposals are put forth in this chapter, for example how to create a learner-centered teaching environment, how to foster learners'learning autonomy and how to create a learner-centered teacher education system to foster teachers'professional development through reflective teaching. In Chapter Five, the author points out the significance and the limitation of the study.
