To educate and improve students'reading ability is one of the major aims of English Teaching. Reading plays an important part in the four basic English skills-listening, speaking, reading and writing. Traditionally, teacher-centered reading teaching method has been adopted in middle schools. It's necessary to study and adopt a new effective reading teaching method.Using learner-centered reading teaching method is helpful for the students to learn effective strategies of study. It's also beneficial for us to reform and improve class teaching. J. Piaget is one of the representatives of constructivism. While using constructivism, we should follow two principles: first, knowledge is constructed actively by the learners, not passively received by them. Second, cognition is learners'process of experiencing the world. According to common procedure of reading in practice, teachers should use effective methods in the three aspects-- pre-reading, while-reading and post-reading to arouse students'study enthusiasm and improve their reading ability.Learner-centered reading teaching is much more difficult than traditional teacher-centered reading teaching, in which teachers only need to understand the text book completely and explain everything to the learners. So teachers now have to improve themselves and prepare for each lesson carefully. As a result, learners can become the center of class while teachers have to be the organizer, intermediary and finder of class.
