A Research On The Status Quo And Deveolopment Of Supplies And Demand Of The Aged Home Services In Shanghai

Shanghai is the earliest city that has been entering an aging society, also has thehighest degree of aging in China. A large senile group provides institutional care vast spaceto develop. In the process of the aged home service development, the supplies anddemands are the main factors that have dominant influence. Against the background ofeconomic and social transformation, government functions change, and weakened familyretirement functions, demands of institutional care are becoming huge. But thedevelopment of the supplies has lagged far behind and a large number of potentialdemands can not be transformed into effective ones, which not only can’t satisfy the needsof the elderly, but is not helpful to the development of institutional care in Shanghai. Thisarticle aims to research the status quo of the aged homes services, analyze the problemsthat the aged home services are facing, and explore the approaches that can make thepotential demands into effective demands.This paper starts with the history of the aged home services, then analyzes its growthmomentum, which includes aging, declining birthrate,“empty nest” and the sick of theelderly. All of these factors give the reasons for the exit and development of the aged homeservices.Next, this paper describes the research I made to the supplies of the aged homesservices in Shanghai. Firstly, this paper gives an objective and accurate dissertation to thecurrent level of aged homes. Secondly, it researches the status of the aged homes in themethods of questionnaires and site visits.263valid questionnaires are finished totally,mainly investigate the facilities and infrastructures, service contents and staff of the agedhomes. And structural equation model is used to research the weights of the aged homes’influencial factors. Finally, summarize the achievements and problems of aged homesbased on quantitative research and qualitative research. The living environment has improved, service has perfect, and service awareness has increased. But there are remainsexits problems such as lacking of professional division, increasing skills of servicepersonnel, needing of improve degree of society recognition. And their causes aredescribed.Then, specific requirements of the services to the elderly are proposed; factors thataffect elderly people to choose the aged homes are discussed, which are gender, age,educational level, and the number of their children; the constraints of the aged homes areanalyzed, which contains economic factors, concept factors and the problems of the agedhomes theirselves. Meanwhile, this paper also estimates the potential demands of the agedhomes, and draws a conclusion that the potential demands of aged homes are hugeconsiderably.After a comprehensive analysis of the supplies and demands for the aged homes, therelationship between supplies and demands is researched on a much higher level. Suppliesand demands are restricted and promoted mutually. In a short term, demands are greaterthan supplies. But in a long run, supplies and demands will be balanced.At last, specific policies are proposed to increase the supplies and demands of theaged homes. Various measures can be taken to improve the aged home services, such asimproving services, expanding the scale of aged homes, increasing the number of agedhomes, and introducing of high-quality talents.
