To promote the popularization and massification of higher education is an important goal of higher education reform. The realization of this goal depends on the development of private colleges and universities in China. However, the development of private universities relies on the soundness of its incentive mechanism.This study, consisting of five chapters, develops from the general to the specific, and then returns to the general from the specific.The first chapter is an introduction. It focuses primarily on the background and significance of this research, and summarizes the current research situation. The author tries to construct a theoretical system of his own. It takes Maslow’s theory from content-based motivation theory, supplemented with other content-based motivation theory and process-based motivation theory, to build the theoretical basis for the incentive mechanism of private colleges and universities. Besides, chapter one describes the content of the study, methods, technique routes and innovations.Chapter two is a general analysis of the incentive mechanism of private colleges and universities. Based on chapter one, it defines the relevant concepts of the incentives for private college teachers. Based on the definition, it analyzes the component and general pattern of the incentives for private college teachers.Chapter three discusses the particularity and problems of the incentives for private college teachers. In order to make the analysis deep and systematic, and to correctly identify the problems and their causes to ensure that the measures and suggestions referred to in chapter four are clearly targeted, this chapter takes the familiar S College as a typical case.Chapter four analyzes how to optimize the incentives for private college teachers. The author proposes practical suggestions from aspects of target and path to improve the incentives. It holds that we should optimize the incentives from the following perspectives. We should build a comparative superior payment and welfare system, gradually perfect the social security incentives, clear the importance of career planning, establish a comprehensive teacher training system, improve the working environment to enhance the efficiency of teachers, optimize the incentives for young teachers, ensure the stable development of teachers, integrate emotional motivations, and coordinate material incentives with spiritual motivations.Chapter five is the summary and outlook. It makes a brief summary and reflects on the further research of this study.
