With the development of private education, the management problems of itsstudents become more and more obvious. Therefore, how to promote theself-management level of students is becoming a hot issue in higher education reforms.The promotion of students’ self-management level will greatly help put forward to thedevelopment of higher education.This paper firstly summarizes the study of self-management of the collegestudents’ domestically and internationally. Then it defines students’ self-managementas to realize the social and individual goals, under the relevant laws and regulationsand the rules of the school, through the individual behavior, sufficient and reasonableeffective resources. The goal is to help develop their schooling, ability, achieve theoptimal development, and lay a good foundation for lifelong growth. At the same timeit points out that students’ self-management includes self-learning management andself-management of life.The following section is about research method and process. In this part, itpresents the target of the research, investigation method and specific procedure. Theanalysis of private college students’ self-management status reveals that the studentsin Private Colleges have the following problems:(1) autonomous learning ability ispoor, short of interest in learning, low self-control ability. Specifically, they seldommake enough preparation before class; they don’t have clear motivation on learning;they feel difficult to carry out their study plans; students are commonly short ofsummarizing ability (2) for daily life, they have common sense,but lack of advancedskills; they don’t know how to manage money.(3) they are highly dependent onteachers and the parents (4) they always feel helpless on managing their moods, andthey are not quite good at making adjustment.The causes of management problems of private college students are:(1) highereducation factors. The college usually ignores the independence of students, stresseson obedience; the content of education is mainly on knowledge obtaining rather thantheir improvement on abilities;Management philosophy usually neglects the students’individual identities; the fulfillment is always by executive order, but not democracy.(2) On family education, parents usually decide all, neglect their children’s initiation.(3) For college students themselves, they lack self-control ability and reluctantly makeplans.In order to improve private college students’ self-management, we have to makeefforts on the followings (1) college’s administrators should change ideas to perfectschool rules and regulations; to improve the management style, cultivate theexcellent students to manage other students; to organize activities for students.(2)Parents should change their concepts and help students develop their self-management(3) students’ own efforts. Take the initiative to improve their recognition system; Improve the initiative, active participation in management; Learn to control, to adapt.
