It is a special form and a significant education activity to study abroad in France duringthe period of Republic of China in the history.It is a special period, because the abroad studyform is without parallel in history, which marked in work study in the former period, andentered into Institut Franco-Chinois de Lyon in the later. It is a significant education activity,because in the background of the time, in such a country that the political, economic andcultural much lag behind than the western country. In order to make more Chinese to havechances to learn the western science and culture and the system experience, the governmenttried to under the help of France’s education recourses to foster the Chinese oversea students.It remedied for the current situation that domestic education cannot afford the most students.So it was a significant event in the history of studying abroad. Besides, due to the characters,the forms, and the training goals are different during the two times to study abroad in France,so many scholars consider there is little relationship between them and seldom study them.While, in fact is not. From the study in this thesis, I find there are many intersections in therelationship between the two times studying abroad. For example, work study studentsprovided large number of excellent matriculates to University of Lyon. Otherwise Universityof Lyon offered the accommodations to the work study students. In the external form, InstitutFranco-Chinois de Lyon referenced the successful experience of work study students, but alsoabsorbed the failure. So it is significant to study the transition of the twice times study abroad.This thesis tries to further discuss the history of studying abroad from the view of thetransition of the studying abroad in France during the period of Public of China. It fills thegap of this aspect in the historians, and aim to refer some references in the exchange andcooperation between China and France and at the same time enlighten in the studying abroadeducation.This thesis divides into three parts except the introduction and the conclusion:The first part is chapter one: this part mainly studies the general situation during theperiod of the Public of China. It contains the develop and the reasons of the movement ofwork study, and the reasons of transforming to Institut Franco-Chinois de Lyon, and thesituations in the Institut Franco-Chinois de Lyon. The second part is chapter two: this chapter is the Core Part of the thesis. It mainlydiscusses the relationship and the transition between the two times to go to going to Francefor study during the period of Public of China. The relationship between them is presentedclearly and explicitly through analyzing the inner content, exterior style and essence.The third part is chapter three: this chapter is the evaluation and introspection about thechange that going to study abroad in France in the Period of republic of China. In theevaluation, I think that the change from the movement of work study students to InstitutFranco-Chinois de Lyon makes going abroad is more standard and reasonable and fastens thespeed of absorbing France technology. The procedure of going to France is mainly followsfrom enthusiastic study to reasonable study, from folk activity to government’s activity andfrom middle education to higher education. There are a lot of things which worth thinking inthe changing procedure.
