Reading is one of the important means for people to obtaininformation. People are required to do foreign language readingextensively and effectively in this time. We live in the information age,people do reading activities every day. Currently the students are lack ofthe language environment of listening or speaking a foreign language. Sothe reading is a kind of important learning way to absorb the languagematerials and access the information. As the main input way of languagelearning, reading occupies an important position in listening, speaking,reading and writing. At the same time, the ability of readingcomprehension is the key one of the abilities in senior high school. It notonly reflects the students’ English level of knowledge, more important isto reflect the students’ practical ability to use knowledge. But it is a pitythat the phenomenon" high investment, low yield" in reading teaching isstill very common. There are two aspects which effect the improvementof students’ reading ability: one is that under the effect of traditionalteaching way, reading teaching mode is single; teachers only payattention to the knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, teachers aremasters of class, and students are only passive knowledge receiver. Theother aspect is that the student do not have solid knowledge of the language, they are lack of using reading strategy and poor culturalknowledge. With the educational reform, the aim of English teaching is tocultivate students’ life-long learning ability, educators pay more and moreattention to improve English reading skills. So how to improve seniorhigh school students’ reading ability, especially senior3students’, is atask that is worth English teachers’ thinking.This paper reviews the study of English learning strategies at all timesand in all countries, especially on reading strategy research. Based on thecognitive theory and schema theory, this paper conducted an empiricalstudy on English reading strategy training for senior three students.This study intended to explore the relationship between English readingstrategy training for senior3students and their reading ability and examscores, especially focus on the intermediate and poor students. Throughthis study, the author hopes to help senior high school students especiallyintermediate and poor students use reading strategies more efficient andimprove their reading ability and exsm scores. Meanwhile, this study putsforward a number of suggestions for English teaching, and the authorhopes these can be helpful for English teaching.
