Having been witnessing the new curriculum reform for more than a decade,Chongqing urban area harbors excellent and superior teaching resources, beingeducationally held to the highest standard. However, the achievements gained in thecourse of the development of ideological and moral class in Chongqing’swell-developed area, hardly outweigh the short comings resulted in by the impact ofmany negative factors, such as less importance attached by schools to this subject,inadequate specialization of the faculty, and misunderstanding by students and parentsabout this class. As a teacher who has been toiling at the teaching forefront for almostten years, I carry out my work under the guidance of the new curriculum reform.In order to obtain a full understanding of the current state of ideological and moralteaching in Chongqing unban area, of the problems in process of teaching and learning,an investigation was conducted on the course offering, teaching process, quality of theteaching faculty as well as the textbooks. A comprehensive investigation on this coursewill help increase the effectiveness and future educational reform so as to achieve theobjective of the curriculum reform.Based on the convincing results and sufficient statistics through surveys andinterviews and on the constructive advice from reference books and the tutor, this paperis divided into the following four parts: The first part is the introduction which containsbackground information, significance of the course and a general statement of thecurrent researches. The body part includes investigations on the current status of juniorhigh school ideological and moral teaching in Chongqing main urban area, the problemsexposed in the teaching process and the causes and then the advice for the teachingreform.
