Reading is an activity follows all our lives and it’s also a kind of capabilitywhich is absolutely needed for the human beings. As a way of cooperative learningunder the condition of lifelong education, reading undertakes the task of spreadknowledge. Employed both the action and qualitative research methodology, thepresent study selects the R primary school students which from the X Street inLinxiang region of Lincang city, in Yunnan province as the subject. By using thequestionnaire and interview, it tries to figure out the X Street students’ present state ofreading development; see through the appearance to explore the various factors whichimpact the school to carry out reading activities smoothly. The research reveals thatthe development of school reading activities is influenced by social attitudes, familyreading environment, community reading atmosphere and school teachers’ readingawareness and professional skills. Educational aims and assessment types are twoessential factors which restrict the reading. For the existing problems and restrictedfactors in the process of action research,it puts forward the measures to promote thedevelopment of school reading activities, to provide a basis for the school students’developing reading activities, and then promote the improvement of students’ readingability.This thesis includes five chapters as follows:The first chapter is introduction. It briefly introduces the reasons to select thetopic; the relative studies in abroad and at home in the field of reading and defines thesome technical terms within this paper. It designs the research methods for the studybased on the needs, purposes and significance of the study.The second chapter is introduction of the local conditions. It contains the socialdevelopment, educational conditions and reading development conditions and so forth.The purpose is to clearly state out the practical educational conditions in X Street,supplying a basis for the following action research methodology.The third chapter is implementation of action research. By analyzing thepurposes, contents and processes of action research, this part clearly state out thewhole practical process of reading action. The fourth chapter is evaluation of the result. It puts forward the measure ofquantity evaluation guidelines and the participating evaluation methods to do atime-related evaluation for the study result, analyzing the reasons and the existingproblems for supply a basis for improving research method.The fifth chapter is improvement of theory. Stems from the theoretical andsuggestion considerations, it supplies theoretical basis and practical method for thelocal reading research, in order to advance the future reading research.
