The immigrants issue is one of the main contents of historical demo-graphicgeography; its research plays an important role in intergration of history of a countryor a region. The author investigated the immigration of the Han Dynasty in Hexi areawith the purpose to complete the history of this region, present beneficial referencesto the regional development and socio-economic sustainable development.This paper includes two parts, introduction and text.The introduction part clarifies two conceptions,“Hexi area” and “immigrants”,which mainly introduces the reason of choosing this subject, academic review, thesignificance of selecting the topic, the research contents and methods. Hexi region isone of the early developed area in Chinese history, the research about Hexi is plentifuland substantial. On the whole, the study of immigrants in Han dynasty was veryinsufficient, so this paper has a greater development. By selected this typical region,study immigration issue of Han dynasty makes a slender contribution for the historyof immigration, regional development and historical geography other disciplines. Itcan also offer a historic basis for modern development of Hexi and the construction ofecological civilization.The main body is divided into four chapters. The first chapter presents a briefintroduction to the immigrants from prehistoric period to Han dynasty, especially forthe immigrants moved into Jiu Quan and Zhang Ye.Since the ancient times, Qiang,Zhi, Wu Sun and Hun tribe were survive and thrived in this vast land. With thevictory of the Hexi Battle in Han dynasty, Hun exited Hexi area, the Han governmentbegan a large-scale wave of immigration to Hexi. Chapter two generally talked aboutthe idea of immigration to the west and implementation in Hexi region. Chapter threediscussed the immigrants’ type, characteristics, especially for the Xiaozhi, Wu Sun,Lu Shuihu which the academic circle pays less attention to this subject, and the wayof immigration and briefly describes the route which immigrants moved into Hexi.Chapter four talked about the influence and revelation of immigrants. Whenimmigrants moved into Hexi, it relieved the pressure of population of inland, increasecultivated land per capita, increased labour to Hexi area, further, they also gave arapid development to Hexi area, ensured unimpeded Silk Road, promoted the Sino- Western cultural exchanges, which led to the emergence of town in Hexi area andrapid development. However, we must known, immigrants moved into Hexi with apowerful nation as its safeguard. Moreover, immigrants moved into Hexi not only hadgrown up in the era of such achivements and mining landslide havoc entrionment.
