The individual’s internalization of social morality exists in a variety of complexstates in the moral internalization process. Each state effectively influences people’sdaily moral behavior, and is corresponding with many social and moral issues. Thispaper is aimed at analyzing the various states in people’s moral internalization processfrom three aspects, including moral cognition, moral emotion and moral will. It isbelieved that this paper will help us deeply understand and grasp the whole process ofmoral internalization as well as a large number of ethical issues in contemporarysociety. If we simply consider moral internalization as a process in which individualsincorporate social morality within themselves and research the process from thefollowing three aspects, namely moral cognition, moral emotion and moral will, we findthat in the process individuals’ identification with social morality is not consistent interms of moral cognition, moral emotion and moral will. It’s the very inconsistency thatresults in the various states in the moral internalization process. In other words, as forthe three aspects of social morality-moral cognition, moral emotion and moral will-,there is a tendency that individuals will identify with all of them or none of them, oronly identify with some of them. In addition, the different states may remain the samefor a long time, or change continually. This paper begins with a detailed analysis on moral internalization, moral cognition, moral emotion and moral will. On the theoretical basis, two special states are mentioned, namely individuals support or nonsupport the social morality from all the threeperspectives simultaneously. The other six major moral internalization states are alsoanalyzed in detail as follows: identify with in terms of moral cognition, disidentify within terms of moral emotion, and nonsupport in terms of moral will; disidentify with interms of moral cognition, identify with in terms of moral emotion and support in termsof moral will; individuals identify with social morality in terms of moral emotion, disidentify with in terms of moral cognition, and nonsupport in terms of moral will;disidentify with in terms of moral emotion, identify with in terms of moral cognition, and support in terms of moral will; support in terms of moral will, disidentify in termsof moral cognition and disidentify with in terms of moral emotion; nonsupport in termsof moral will, identify with in terms of moral cognition and identify with in terms ofmoral emotion. The study on different states will further our understanding of thedevelopment of individual’s moral quality and help to solve social moral problems, thusis of great significance both in theory and practice.
