Wuhua County, Meizhou city is located in the mountainous area of EastGuangdong. In recent years, various environmental pollution problems have occurredin Wuhua County, and these problems have affected people’s daily life more and more.Environmental education can increase people’s environmental awareness radically,solve the environmental problem effectively, and improve the sustainabledevelopment of this County. To carry out environmental education better in future, Ithas some reference value to know the condition and shortcomings of environmentaleducation in the high schools, to know the basic environmental literacy of the teachersand students.The questionnaire method, interviewing method and observational method wereused in this study. In view of the physical truth in Wuhua high schools, it takesquestionnaires and interviews survey in some fields like that: the actuality and lack ofenvironmental education in the high schools, the environmental awareness, attitude,knowledge and the behavior engagement at environmental protection of teachers andstudents. It makes two questionnaires about teachers and students, selects some peoplerandomly to be respondents in8high schools in the city and countryside. It gets72effective questionnaires about teachers and380about students, and some othersrecord of investigation. Using statistical software SPSS19.0to analyze the data,wecan get the following conclusions:Most teachers and students have different degrees of attention neighboringenvironment, but they are short of in-depth scientific knowledge.Their environmentalliteracy is not enough. The different professional, different location make teachers andstudents have clear different level understanding about environment. They get theenvironmental knowledge and information in many sources, but they can’t use theinformation effectively.The High School Biology Curriculum owns important position and uniqueAdvantage in High schools Environmental education. The students say that they canget most Environmental knowledge in biology, they approve of developingEnvironmental education in biology very much. The students in different grades haveclear different level understanding about Environment knowledge in biology books.Now the textbooks using in Wuhua permeates quite many details about environmentaleducation. It concentrates most in the first and third compulsory textbooks, and canimprove the environmental literacy of students very much. But these knowledge islack of systemic.The Biology teachers lack of training about environmental education. The resultshows that most teachers are unfamiliar in environmental education. They can’tintegrate effectively the information about environment in biology teaching. Theschools and teachers lack of experimental learning, especially outside class. Maybe itgoes against the improving of their environmental awareness and quality.There are many factors influencing the developing of environmental education.The major factors are like that: The ignoring of department concerned, the lack offunding and condition for environmental education’s implement, the poor ofenvironmental literacy of teachers, the lack of abilities in environmental educationpractice, the effect of exam-oriented education and so on. On the basis of the actuality and the result of this investigation, we can offersome countermeasures and suggestions to improve the environmental education inbiology of the high schools:To enlarge financial investment about environmental education, improve theenvironmental education condition;To strengthen the teachers training, improvebiology teachers’ quality in carrying out environmental education;To explicit the goaland of environmental education in high schools;The biology teachers need developthe environmental information in textbooks, to broaden extensibility of environmentalknowledge;On the basis of the area condition, develop biological extracurricularteaching practice about environmental education in more than one way, let teachersand students can improve their manipulating capability and the ability of analyzingproblem in practice;To develop more project publicity and symposium aboutenvironmental education in more than one way. Taking part in interactivecommunication can arouse students’ attention of environmental problem, and developtheir environmental awareness and good quality.
