Research On The Country Wedding Ceremony In The View Of Face-Saving

Face-saving culture exists everywhere in Chinese daily life，which dominates people’sbehavior, as a behavioral logic in Chinese traditional society, and has different performance indifferent situation. In this paper, face-saving behavior is investigated and the weddingceremony in A village is taken as an example. The approaches of participant observation anddeep interview are used to describe the human relationship in A village, then the faceexchange law and logical characteristics of farmers behavior are proposed, and the wholeprocess of wedding ceremony is shown. By combining sociology and anthropology theories,the face-saving behavior of wedding organizer and face-giving behavior of guests areanalyzed deeply, respectively. What is more, the features of face-saving behavior and thenegative effects in A village are discussed.The marriage ceremony is an important ritual in Chinese, which is a field and tool forpeople to communicate in certain social network. Base on the relationship betweenface-saving and marriage ceremony, the necessity of their combination is clarified. Based onthis, some detailed analysis is given.Firstly, by organizing domestic and foreign literatures, the cultural root of theface-saving is described, and then the connotation of the face-saving is put forward. Secondly,in view of observation and interview, the first-hand materials about weeding ceremony in Avillage are obtained. By describing the process of wedding ceremony and analyzing the gustsidentify, the results show that the wedding in A village is simple, but the wedding custom isvery rich. The mixed relationship is the main type in all guests, and the corresponding humanprinciple affects the behavior in the wedding. Finally, on the basis of survey data, theface-saving behavior of wedding organizer and face-giving behavior of the guests areanalyzed, respectively. The characteristics of face-saving behavior in the wedding is proposed,that is, the core of face-saving behavior is family, the “pattern of difference” is reflected in theinteraction of the interpersonal relationship, the strength of the behavior is not directlyproportional to the family’s economic capacity, and helplessly psychological is shown in thesocial norms. Meanwhile, the negative effect of the face-saving is discussed in this paper.
