As establishment of Sino-ASEAN free trade zone and permanent settle-down of Sino-ASEAN Expo in Nanning, education for overseas students sees a great opportunity ever had in history. Presently, there are more than5,000overseas students from ASEAN studying in Guangxi, which has become the province receiving the most ASEAN overseas students. Cross-culture adaptability has close relation to their life, study, psychology, social interaction and etc. in Guangxi, so it has pragmatic and theoretical significance to study the cross-culture adaptability of ASEAN students in Guangxi.Based on Lysgaard’s U-Curve Theory, the research first analyzes the cross-culture adaptability of ASEAN students in Guangxi in time dimension. Then, it makes systematically theoretical and empirical analysis by making surveys and in-depth interviews, and collecting first-hand materials concerning study, life and social interaction of ASEAN students. According to the study, the ASEAN overseas students who just come to Guangxi are in honeymoon period, and generally adapt to local life, but only face great difficulties in adaptability of the language and daily life including food, living facilities, pace of life, public service and economic matters; the ASEAN overseas students who are in shock period start to experience culture shock, and general level of adaptability decreases. Besides, their difficulties and obstacles in adaptability of life and study including student’s initiatives, teaching patterns, participation of academic and school activities become prominent; the majority of ASEAN overseas students who are in adaptation period have sound culture adaptability, but still face difficulties in social and cultural values. In the light of features of adaptability at different stages and existing problems, the research puts forward good advice to ASEAN overseas students, local college and university students, and the mass respectively, so as to help ASEAN overseas students have better adaptation of life and study in Guangxi. |
