The autonomous learning theory takes the students as the subject of the learning process. They achieve the learning object through analyzing, exploring, practicing and creating independently. In the view of Modern education theory, the teaching process should focus on mobilizing the students’enthusiasm, make the students grasp the Learning method. The new course reform aimed to improve the students’autonomous learning capacity. The study of teaching mode based on autonomous learning became an important task.In this paper, the concepts and theories of autonomous learning were depicted, some teaching strategies and methods were proposed, considering the characteristics of chemistry science and the practical situation of chemistry teaching. The teachers should activate the students’independent consciousness, put them into independent status, help them acquire learning methods. The learning plan guiding method, experimental teaching method, and networks teaching method could be applied to improve the students’learning capacity. Experimental teaching, which took the required module of high school chemistry course as content, was carried out in the experimental class to explore effective approach to autonomous learning, and to study the influence.The results showed that the application of new teaching model based on autonomous learning could stimulate the students’interest in chemistry, make them more initiative, improve their recognition on the subject of chemistry, and increase their independent learning capacity.
