Research On National Identity Of The Minority Students

Accompanied by the development of ethnic identity in the process of modernization, aspirations of national consciousness and national interests are rising and the sense of ethnic identity is continuously enhancing. Although our country have actively taken various policies and measures to seek common prosperity and development of all ethnic groups, minority areas, due to history,economic, culture, community, the natural environment and other reasons, developed differently on economic, geographic, urban and rural aspects. This impact on the national identity of the minority of our country directly. The consistency between high ethnic identity and national identity not only related to the inter-ethnic solidarity, but also related to the country’s stability and long-term development. Based on this, this thesis, taking the minority college students of Z University as respondents, using questionnaires and unstructured interviews, based on the analysis of the survey dada, under the direction of social identity theory, explore the status quo of the national identity of the minority college students and its influencing factors. Then it probes into the relationship between ethnic identity and national identity and try to find an efficient way to enhance the national identity of the minority college student.The survey results show that the minority students have a higher national identity and ethnic identity in the cognition, evaluation and emotion. This study also found that there isn’t a reciprocal relationship between ethnic identity and national identity, instead, they share a relationship of mutual promotion. Age, educational level, father’s educational level and the living standard of the family, the number of Han nationality friends, scientific and technological strength and other factors all play an important role in the formation of the national identity of minority college students. In these factors, educational level, religious belief and community environment have a significant effect. So, according to these factors, we should find some reasonable and effective ways to improve the national identity of the minority students. And in the specific national work, we must properly handle the relationship of ethnic identity and national identity. This is the only way to achieve the symbiosis of them.
