In2009, Tianshan No.1Primary School launched a project onCurriculum Development of Education for International Understanding.Due to two-year efforts, the school established the idea ofunderstanding of symbiotic harmony among different cultures. And theschool also built the understanding of interdependence of globalizationand people in the knowledge-based economy. Besides, the school setup the understanding of common task which all the mankind must facein the era of globalization. As a result, we formed education curriculumobjectives on international understanding including the core valuesabout loving our own country and caring about common developmentof mankind. We determined the basic content of the internationalunderstanding curriculum. It contained five aspects, which are tounderstand our own national culture, to understand the foreign cultures,human rights education, peace education and environmentaleducation. Finally, we could form the basic implementation strategiesof Education for International Understanding. These strategies consistedof penetration of education for international understanding intofundamental curriculum, developing school-based curriculum ofEducation for International Understanding and building tacit curriculumof Education for International Understanding. In the implementationprocess, the thematic series of school-based curriculum had beenformed. And we also explored a variety of ways and methods oncurriculum implementation. However, there are still some problems inthe curriculum development and practice. For example, sometheoretical issues can not be handled accurately. The implementationsin human rights education and peace education meet somedifficulties.Besides,"knowledge center" in teaching and teachers’ ability need to be improved. Practice has proved that carrying out Educationfor International Understanding in primary school is not only necessarybut also possible. However, that how to make Education forInternational Understanding more effective needs further efforts.
