| In the fall of2004, when Shandong Province, as one of the first batch of provinces,municipalities and autonomous regions to participate in the national high school new courseexperiments, launched integrated curriculum reforms, the development and implementation ofChinese as an optional course became the spotlights of the Chinese curriculum reforms. In2005, the optional course of “Selected Readings of Shih-chi†was included in the “CurriculumProgram†in the high school curriculum reform of Rongcheng, Shandong Province, andeffectively implemented them, which turned a new page in high school elective courses. Froma particular perspective,“Selected Readings of Shih-chi†selected the20texts as the startingpoint for the students to understand the “Shih-chiâ€, as the first rang of the ladder for thestudents to comprehend the Chinese traditional culture, so its position and role in the currenthigh school language teaching can not be ignored. Teachers in Rongcheng were pressinglyconcerned about how to attain the goal in the practice with limited teaching time and how toensure the role of “Selected Readings of Shih-chi†in teaching, so as to improve students’ability, widen their horizon and cultivate their minds.This article is divided into three parts. The first part is the introduction of the contextualmeaning of the topics, literature review, and research methodologies. The second part is themain body, which includes four chapters:Chapter I introduces the “Selected Readings of Shih-chi (Shandong Province Edition)â€which is selected by six high schools of Rongcheng, generalizes the characteristics andframework in order to provide a text basis for the following chapters.Chapter II focuses on the teachers and students in the six high schools of Rongcheng asresearch subjects, introduces the teaching status quo and their personal experiences in thecourse of “Selected Readings of Shih-chiâ€, illustrates questionnaires conducted in thisinvestigation, concludes the problems, and analyzes and studies the in-depth reasons, from thethree aspects of the text content, the quality of teachers and classroom teaching. Chapter IIIputs forward the relative proposals and ideas as for the concluded problems, in order to makethe teachers’ teaching more specialized, enrich and expand the curriculum resources of“Selected Readings of Shih-chiâ€, optimize classroom teaching methods in the “SelectedReadings of Shih-chiâ€, hoping to earnestly provide the guidance for high school teaching of “Selected Readings of Shih-chi†in Rongcheng, change the current teaching dilemma, in orderto raise the students capabilities of the classical Chinese learning in the new curriculumreforms and comprehensively improve students’ Chinese competence.The third part is the conclusion, looking forward to teaching prospects of “SelectedReadings of Shih-chi†in Rongcheng and hoping to broaden the research area of “SelectedReadings of Shih-chiâ€, to seek new research methodologies and means and lay a solidfoundation for the students’ success in the college entrance examination and their lifelongdevelopment. |
